The mission statement of the West Liberty High School Band is, "We are here to become better leaders and community members, by making music we love with people we care about." The WLHS Marching Band is one of southeast Iowa's only competitive marching arts programs that is offered at no cost to the student. While many other school bands charge a participation fee (sometimes up to hundreds of dollars) for students to march, we are committed to making the competitive marching experience accessible to all students, regardless of socioeconomic status.
The "average" marching season for our band costs $10,000 to $15,000 and includes hiring writers for marching drill and color guard choreography, paying specialized instructors to help with drumline and color guard, acquiring copyright permissions to perform music by well-known recording artists, maintaining and upgrading our field equipment and sound systems, outfitting every student with a dry-cleaned uniform, providing meals for students on long competition days, and much more.
Your donation to the West Liberty Fine Arts Boosters not only helps us continue to sustain our award-winning marching program, but also supports our other musical ensembles throughout the year, from paying registration fees for our jazz band competitions to purchasing costumes for our growing show choir. We are so grateful for your annual support!
